Landscaping in 20-Degree Weather for Gillette's Newest Coffee Shop
When Scooter’s Coffee needed their new Gillette location landscaped before opening day (in the middle of December) we didn’t flinch. We just put on an extra layer and got to work.

Project Overview
Known internally as our “December Project,” this job was completed on December 14th for the brand-new Scooter’s Coffee location opening in Gillette. The owner needed the landscaping finished on a tight schedule so the business could open its doors on time.
Thanks to a mild winter, our team was able to move forward with installation despite the late-season conditions; though “mild” is relative when you’re working outside in 20-degree weather. Our crew stepped up to the challenge and worked efficiently to deliver a finished landscape that matched the quality and professionalism of the new coffee shop itself.
Scope of Work
This was a full commercial landscape installation, everything from underground infrastructure to finished plantings, all completed in winter conditions.
Irrigation System
A complete irrigation system was installed first, building the infrastructure that would reliably water the property efficiently once the growing season returned.
Rock Beds & Plant Material
Decorative rock beds were installed around the building alongside a curated selection of trees and shrubs to create a clean, polished commercial exterior.
Trees & Shrubs
Nine trees and more than forty shrubs were planted to establish structure, greenery, and long-term curb appeal; plantings that will grow more beautiful with every passing year.
Dormant Sod In December
Sod was laid across the property while the grass was fully dormant; a calculated move that paid off completely. When spring arrived, it greened up without any issues, proving that proper preparation and technique make all the difference, regardless of the season.

Navigating Challenges
The first was timeline pressure. With the business opening date locked in, there was no room to slip. Coordinating our work alongside several other contractors finishing the site simultaneously required clear communication, flexible scheduling, and the ability to sequence work without getting in anyone’s way.
The second was location. Scooter’s Coffee sits in a high-traffic area in the heart of Gillette. Staging materials and completing the work safely around constant vehicle and pedestrian activity added a layer of complexity that demanded both planning and situational awareness on every shift.
Despite the cold, the coordination, and the congestion, our team stayed focused and delivered, so the owner could open on schedule without landscaping being the reason for any delay.
A Commercial Landscape at the Heart of Gillette.
Scooter’s Coffee opened with a clean, professional exterior that welcomed customers from day one. But the impact of this project extends beyond a single business; the nine trees and dozens of shrubs planted here are growing into permanent features of a highly visible corner of the community.
