It Started as Just a Sprinkler Job.
The homeowner came to us with a straightforward request: install a sprinkler system and put down some grass.
But after a conversation about what the space could truly become, we proposed something more intentional; a small backyard worth spending time in. They said yes, and the Little Oasis was born.
Project Overview
A new client reached out looking to improve the small backyard of their duplex; a compact space in a busy area that lacked both functionality and visual appeal. The yard had very limited access, which added a layer of logistical complexity from the start.
Their original plan was simple: a sprinkler system and grass. After sitting down together and walking through what a more intentional design could look like and how it could transform how they actually use and enjoy their outdoor space; the homeowner was open to investing a bit more into the project.
That conversation made all the difference. The upgraded plan turned what would have been a routine installation into a complete backyard transformation we now proudly call the “Little Oasis.”
Scope of Work
Every element of this project was chosen to make the most of a small footprint; layering function, beauty, and dimension into a yard that had none of the three.
Irrigation System
A new in-ground irrigation system was installed first, establishing the efficient watering foundation necessary for healthy, long-term plant and turf performance.
Lush Green Sod
Fresh sod was installed throughout the yard, delivering an immediate visual upgrade and creating a vibrant green canvas for the rest of the design to build upon.
Perennial Shrubs & Layered Plants
A curated selection of perennial shrubs was installed to complement the client’s existing plants. Varying heights and textures were intentionally chosen to add dimension and depth, making the compact space feel larger and more dynamic.
The Winding Walkway
The heart of the project. A looping walking path was installed using paver edging and decorative rock, winding through the lawn and planting beds so the homeowner can experience the full landscape from every angle. Clean, visually striking, and thoughtfully placed; this single feature defines the Little Oasis.
Navigating Challenges
This project came with a real logistical constraint: the backyard was difficult to access. Working in a duplex setting in a high-traffic area meant transporting materials required extra time, planning, and effort at every stage.
Rather than letting the access limitations compromise the quality of work, our team adjusted our approach and stayed focused on what mattered most: delivering the same level of craftsmanship and attention to detail we bring to every project.
The restricted access extended our timeline slightly, but it never diminished the outcome. When the final stone was placed and the last blade of sod was laid, the extra effort was more than justified.
A Small Yard That Feels Like a Place to Breathe.
Now, the homeowner can sip their morning coffee while enjoying the greenery and spend quiet evenings outside surrounded by a beautiful, thoughtfully designed backyard.
What was once an underutilized strip of ground behind a duplex became a peaceful, functional retreat.
The irrigation system, vibrant sod, layered plantings, and winding walkway came together to create something that feels intentional, relaxing, and genuinely worth spending time in.
